FRESH POWDER

If parks and pipe aren't your thing, Whistler's average annual snowfall is 30ft. Whistler's backcountry terrain is virtually endless. Some of the best big mountain skiers and riders in the world live in Whistler such as skiers Hugo Harrison, Mike Douglas, Steve Leeder and Jen Aston, and snowboarders Kevin Sansalone, DCP, Devan Walsh and Victoria Jealouse. While the backcountry is stunning and beautiful, it is also savage and unforgiving. With so much snowfall accumulation avalanches are a serious reality.

BACKCOUNTRY KNOWLEDGE / AVALANCHE AWARENESS
words of warning

To prevent riders from getting themselves into avoidable circumstances, free daily avalanche awareness tours are offered on Blackcomb. The full day tour covers terrain evaluation, avalanche phenomenon, avalanche safety equipment, and rescue techniques. You must be able to ride a blue run (intermediate run) comfortably to join the tours.

YOU WANT MORE?

Beyond skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry you can also snowmobile, cross country ski, snowshoe, mountaineer, rock/ice climb, and the list goes on.
